I would like to thank the show Committee and Chairman extraordinaire, Robin
Somerville, for not only the invitation but for the consistent communication and weekly
updates required to coordinate your shows despite the ongoing COVID pandemic and
the resulting stress in organizing. From start to finish a joy to work with you all and truly
kudos to a hard-working core of volunteers to get this massive task accomplished. A
lovely venue which I hope to visit again in the future with my own dogs in tow. What luck
to have members with their ears to the ground to find this park like setting. My thanks
also to my steward Carmel McCormack for her ever efficient management and keeping
me on time and the ring flowing with little effort.
My thanks obviously to you the breeders and fanciers who brought me your hopefuls
and your enthusiasm. We all breed and judge according to the same plan. The breed
standard. I do my best to respect in my selections a key point to the standard,
moderation. In size, coat, bone, fill, etc. except for eyes where our standard deviates
and requires large. In saying that I was pleased that the majority fit those standard
requirements well. If my critiques mention ‘fill’ as in needing more or less it is not
anything more then to indicate what would be required to see it as moderate and
certainly a personal observation and interpretation on my part. That said, I appreciated
the sporting way all accepted my placements and attention when I was able to share
some general thoughts on the day. The fact that so many did not have the option of
more general exposure or training for your dogs and the noted lack of timidity indicates
not only a commitment to doing your best to socialize and train but to the selection of
stock with good solid temperaments as required for our breed. An active, graceful,
sporting and gay character is what we all strive for in our selections not only for future
breeding stock but for our lucky companion homes as well. Kudos to you all.
I hope that my critiques will provide you with a picture of what I saw before me and the
process I used in my selections. Sadly, I was not allowed the option of awards of merit
on the day but would have gladly awarded some.
My best you all and I pray that the type lives on.

Dogs
Junior Puppy
1st Midsummers Country Road. 8 months. Blenheim. Blanket marked with rich colour
emerging. A well put together puppy with a good spring of rib, a solid topline, lovely well
laidback shoulders. A solid strong topline from his good length of rib and short loin. A
confident puppy on the move carrying his tail well and level. Face and head as finished
as to be expected at this age but he has wonderful large round eyes with good promise.
2nd Midsummers Carefree Highway. Another heavily marked Blenheim complete with
well placed and valued lozenge. Coat of good colour and texture on a such a young
dog. Topline needs to strengthen and he needs a bit more confidence in the ring. A
worthy dog.
Senior Puppy
Sigma Chi's September Song at Syrenia. 11 months Tricolour. Mature looking puppy
of larger frame. Correct blaze allowing for a soft expression. Eyes are of good colour but
could be larger for my liking. Muzzle plush but a tad short in relation to skull. Long silky
coat in good condition and well broken. Front well put together with well laid back
shoulders and good depth of chest. Topline strong. Showed with confidence in the ring
for his owner.
12-18 Month Dog
Churchill's White knight. Moderate sized openly marked Blenheim. Large dark eyes
and dense pigment surrounding. Rich chestnut red markings and pearly white coat of
good texture. Good spring of rib and cobby body. A sound mover with proper tail
carriage. Lovely temperament to boot. In my shortlist. His time will come.
Canadian Bred Dog
Midsummers Tom Thumb. Another moderate size dog. Heavily marked Blenheim with
coat of good texture. Head and eyes pleasing with soft expression. Needs more
experience on the move as movement was difficult to assess despite the fact he has
lovely angles fore and aft. A bit proud of tail but that may settle as he gains experience.
Bred by Exhibitor Dog
Cempa's Wishful Thinking. A Black and tan dog of ideal size and shape. Ample
ribbing and a short loin to keep his topline solid standing and on the move. All covered
with silky straight coat with rich clear tan in all the right places. A sound mover at one
with his handler. Hocks well let down with correct bend of stifle. Neck of moderate
length and well crested as well. Topped by a head of lovely dimensions and correct
balance of skull to muzzle. Large round expressive dark brown eyes as well. A lovely
package who though he stood alone merited the win and the Winners Dog award as
well.
Open Dog
1st Midsummers First Knight. Two year old dog. Blenheim with well broken markings
of rich chestnut colour. Lovely balance to front and rear which allowed for a collected
gait on the go round. A bit enthusiastic of tail at moments but settled during the
challenge for winners. Masculine head without coarseness with lovely dark round eyes,
correct length of muzzle with ample lip without being pendulous. Good cushioning under
his eyes enhanced his soft expression. Coat in good condition of correct silky texture.
His crown should not be difficult to attain. Needs a bit of schooling and pushed hard for
winner but was pleased to award him Reserve Winners Dog.
2nd Glenorchy's Fame and Fortune. Blenheim with spot of full measure. Well
balanced with a solid well made front assembly and a good topline. Presented in hard
muscled condition, a credit to his owner. Another with a soft expression and nice dark
pigment and a well conditioned coat of correct texture.
3rd Legacy Archangel Raphael. Another Blenheim with spot. Smaller cast of the class
but still within the standard in fact closer to the preferred weight without any hint of
femininity. Shown in unison with his owner once they both relaxed in the class. Soft
expression with dark pigment. If I could wish it would be for eyes of a darker shade.
4th Eddie Zoryst. Tricolour, heavily marked but with rich tan and jet black markings of
good texture. Blaze distinct and eyes of good colour. Front good and topline solid
standing and on the move. Head could benefit with less fill under the eyes and more
length of muzzle to balance over expression. Good bite and lovely temperament.
Veteran Dog
Midsummers Black Thunder. 7.5 years. A Tricolour with blanket markings and rich tan
of good texture. A happy showman with a sound body with good rib, short hocks, good
tail carriage and sound movement coming and going. Expression soft with large round
correctly coloured eyes and good fill under the eyes.
Bitches
Junior Puppy
A lovely class of bitches; the future looks bright. Interestingly all placements sired by the
same dog.
1st Midsummers Cinnamon Girl. Blenheim. Lovely make and shape and certainly
feminine without lacking bone or substance. An ideal size for her age group. Carriage
on the go round excellent from tip of nose to her well carried tail. A strong rear with
short hocks and good drive. Front tight probably due to her well laid back shoulders. A
feminine head of ideal proportions with dark round eyes and almost black eye and lip
pigment. Colour of coat shows promise for dark chestnut colour and good texture. A
happy little shower as well lacking nothing in confidence. Happily awarded her Reserve
Winners Bitch and eventually Best Puppy in Specialty.
2nd Midsummers Circle of Life. Pushed hard for 1st against her sister. Another well
broken Blenheim with spot. Good solid shape with ample rib. Topline firm standing and
on the move. Another with strong rear assembly and correct short hocks. Coat shows
promise with good texture. A happy little shower who missed out by what looked like
ring experience and could easily be switched to 1st on another day.
3rd Midsummers Chantilly Lace. The third litter sister of this class today. More heavily
marked than first two but with the same lovely feminine head features from correct
muzzle length, soft slightly rounded skull, long well feathered ears to exquisite dark
round eyes and soft expression. As mentioned, they could easily swap positions on
another given day.
4th Banco Royal No 5. Another worthy young Blenheim sharing the sire of the three
above. A little longer cast then the above three but with good angles front and rear with
the same short hocks and drive from behind. Correct coat texture and rich colour
emerging. Pigment strong and dark on her lips and eyes which are well spaced, round
and dark and of a lovely size. A happy little puppy.
Senior Puppy
Sigma Chi's Charade at EFK. Blenheim with well broken colour and good texture.
Smaller cast but with correct substance and moderate bone for her size. A sweet
feminine expression from her well pigmented dark round eyes and feminine head
properties. A happy shower for her owner.
Canadian Bred
Midsummers Crown Princess Evelyn. 19 months. Heavily marked Blenheim. Good
strong substantial body without looking masculine. Between coats today. Lovely
carriage on the go round using her front well to reach and her short hocks to provide
correct drive. An effortlessly moving bitch. Feminine head with good length of ears,
good placement of eyes and lovely round dark eyes. Kiss mark on muzzle did not
detract from her overall appeal and expression.
Bred By Exhibitor
Cempa Daddy's Girl. Blenheim 2.5 years. Classic shape outline with good depth of
chest and correct set of tail. Moderate neck and solid topline on the move and standing.
Her well broken chestnut nut markings were of good length and texture. Feminine head
and correct soft expression. Good even lip line with dark pigment. Slight mark of pink on
nose did not detract her from overall expression. Good padding around eyes and
muzzle plush without being overdone. When at attention head appeared almost flat but
with no harsh lines framed by well feathered long ears. Moved at one with her handler
despite distractions at ringside. Her "Daddy" should be rightfully proud. Winners Bitch.
Open Bitch
Glenire's Ursula Black. Stood alone. Black and tan bitch of 5 years. Lovely shape of
body just cast one size larger than the rest. Great depth of chest and solid topline with
well carried, well set tail. Coat of good texture and length. Lovely eyes and well shaped
head. Could use a bit more fill under eyes to soften expression. A useful bitch to move
on with nevertheless.
Veteran Bitch
1st Ch Lavenderhills Lil Britt. Tricolour bitch believing her 9 years. Like a fine wine
she has aged well. Presented in hard condition. Heavily marked but with rich tan in all of
the right places. Lovely head with a soft expression, clear distinct blaze good fill even at
her age and full dentition. Her eyes were dark and well pigmented with a soft
expression. A sound mover fore and aft and on the go round she enjoyed herself and
held a nice crisp outline. Happy to award her best of opposite in and best veteran show.
2nd Ch Midsummer Angel on the Horizon. Blenheim. 8 years. Larger cast but all girl.
Heavily marked but with rich colour. Lovely eyes and dark pigment with correct blaze
and long ear leathers. Sound mover and good carriage on a loose lead.
Best of Breed
Ch Matmor Talk Of The Town (import Aus). A stallion of a dog who marched into the
ring like he owned it. Black and tan with rich tan markings and textbook flat black coat of
silky texture. At the top of the height standard but with no coarseness and not leggy in
any way. Correct moderate bone with well set back shoulders and a strong level back
leading to a well carried tail atop of balanced rear assembly and short strong hocks. He
moved with drive and on a loose lead carried his neck with a slight arch as he reached
easily. No sharp angles to his head and his eyes are a soft dark brown with dark
pigment and well spaced pips to allow for a soft expression. Ears long and well
furnished with silky hair. Muzzle of correct length to balance his skull and allow for an
open soft expression so difficult to find in this colour. Shown in hard muscled condition.
To top it off a sweet temperament as well. Welcome to Canada. Happy to award him
this well earned win.
Best of Opposite
From the Veteran Bitch class Ch Lavenderhills Lil Britt.
Select Dog
Ch Dawnaquinn Kat's out of the Bag. Ruby smaller cast then winner but with correct
bone and lovely shape. Rich ruby colour on and a well made front and rear with solid
topline moving and standing. Strong dark pigment and a soft sweet expression with dark
round eyes and soft features without being feminine. Could use maturity and more
ribbing which should come as he matures.
Select Bitch
Ch Bonitos Companeros Flip Flop. A move up to the Specials only class. Black and
tan of ideal moderate size for me. Good sound body of correct proportions. An elegant,
moving bitch, carried her head well and tail as well. Rich tan and gleaming black coat.
Lovely sweet feminine expression with soft round eyes, good fill beneath framed ears of
good length and well feathered. Happy to award her the Select Bitch award.
